Shalom Institute is a Jewish Camp, Conference and Retreat Center. While we rebuild our beautiful Alan D. Leve Campus in Malibu, we say we are a community “without” walls.

We create transformative experiences for people of all ages and abilities in variety of incredible venues throughout Southern California and beyond, including Israel.

Alan D. Leve Campus in Malibu

Located in the scenic mountains of Malibu, in Southern California, only 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean near Leo Carrillo State Beach and less than 45 minutes from Los Angeles, Shalom Institute’s Alan D. Leve Campus sits on 200 acres of breathtaking wilderness, an oak and sycamore-covered terrain with hiking trails, sweeping, panoramic views, and waterfalls – a true Southern California retreat center jewel. In November 2018, the Woolsey Fire destroyed 95% of our facilities. While we are in the process of rebuilding our campus, we are running summer camp overnights, day programs such as Jewish holiday family fun days as well as day retreats and programs for synagogue and day schools.

Our campus is available for rentals – filming, parking, nature walks, team building, day retreats. Our facilities are limited currently due to the damage from the Woolsey Fire, but there is an abundance of beauty and space for your needs.

Gold Creek Center

Gold Creek Center is the summer home of two of our signature experiences, Camp JCA Shalom and Camp Gesher. It is beautifully tucked away at the foot of the magnificent mountains of the Angeles National Forest, just 20-30 minutes from the heart of the San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley, and Santa Clarita and less than 45 minutes from the Conejo Valley and West Los Angeles. The 270+ acres include a pool, ball fields, basketball courts (indoor and outdoor), and air-conditioned indoor program and living spaces.

The property’s history includes being the former residence of legendary filmmaker, Cecil B. DeMille and the facility is dotted with artifacts from his celebrated career, such as the main gate and the Stone House, the gates were used in DeMille’s masterpiece “The Ten Commandments.”

Camp Cedar Falls

Summer 2024, Camp Gesher returns to Camp Cedar Falls in Angelus Oaks, CA. The San Bernadino mountains serve as the background to this beautiful, woodsy campus.

Malibu United Methodist Church

Following the Woolsey Fire that destroyed our Malibu farm and gardens, Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue welcomed in our Shemesh Farms social enterprise to their beautiful campus. In Fall 2023, Shemesh Farms 3.0 opened at Malibu United Methodist Church (MUMC) as Malibu Jewish Center was undergoing their own renovation. Across from Zuma Beach, the Farm Fellows (our Shemesh Farms employees), their coaches and volunteers have planted raised garden beds, continued with their hydroponic tower gardening, fulfill orders, and hold their business meetings.

Other Locations

Since the Woolsey Fire, we have partnered with other Southern California retreat and camp centers such as Camp Ramah in Ojai, Camp Alonim and Camp Bob Waldorf to run our seasonal camps, as well as full-service retreats and family camps for PJ Library, synagogues, and religious schools.
